It might have been very different if just one of a string of late chances had gone in to compete a great come back. Joey had a thundering header just over the bar and both Harry and Howard forced outstanding saves from the home keeper.
It was very much a tale of two halves, with Desford lacklustre and completely out of sorts until half time. In all honesty the 2-0 deficit at that point could easily have been considerably worse, but Jake was on hand repeatedly to make crucial saves. It was great to see him in a more advanced area and beginning to 'sweep up' behind our defence too.
The situation got worse soon after the break as the home side caught us out with a clever finish at the end of a long ball forward, though the danger should have been dealt with higher up field.
From that point forward Desford sprang into life and at last started to improve the short passing and energy levels. Howard started to rampage forwards on the left and with Todd overlapping him repeatedly from full back the momentum Started to turn and the chances began to flow more often. Eventually the goal we deserved came through the returning Dan T, then Howard added another and the game was set for a big finish. The lads couldn't quite get the third goal that they probably deserved and some of the lads were visibly running on empty at the end!
That concludes the league campaign for 2016/17 and we'll now begin to prepare for Summer tournaments and another new season.
